Gosaikunda – A Soul-Stirring and Daring Trek Before I Got Married
Introduction
Gosaikunda is a lake in Nepal which is located at the height of 4,380 m under Langtang National Park in the Rasuwa District with total surface area of 34 acres. Gosaikunda has its own religious belief. For more information related to Gosaikunda you can visit the wikipedia. Last year in October 2023, we headed for the trek of the Gosaikunda. I have not researched about Gosaikunda at all. All I want is to enjoy the trek with whatever comes on the way.
Preparation
As I knew this will be the trek which will take 4-5 days. Considering all the things I tried to keep my bagpack light.I have packed two fleece tshirt, one trouser and one that I will be wearing as I decided to wear the same dress for trekking and travelling which help me to keep my bag spacious 😉. I have also packed some fruits, chocolate, and two slices of multigrain bread which I had bought from Krishna pauroti located near Kamalpokhari. I have also packed medicine specially gastritis and other pain killers, move spray for instant relief, candid dusting powder, massage oil and a bandage.
Reaching the starting point
Day One
I took the Mahanagar Bus from Ekantakuna to new Buspark, early in the morning at 7:00 a.m. I travelled about halfway around the chakrapath. The route included Ekantakuna, Sanepa, Balkhu, Kalanki, Sitapaila, Swyambhu, Banasthali, Balaju and finally Buspark. I got off the bus at bustop and waited for my fiance to join me.
After my fiance came we went to the buspark to search for the bus which will take us to our starting point of the trek. Unfortunately we did not get the bus in the buspark. One of the brother told us we could get the bus from Machhapokhari. It was already 8:00 am by that time. We ran towards Macchapokhari, as it was the peak season for trekking all the bus were full. We could not get the seat.
We are not on those category who are not ready to face the challenges 💪. So we took the local bus to reach Galchi which is located in Dhading district. From there, we again took the bus to reach to Trishuli from where we will be heading to Dhunche. The bus was so full but we finally managed to get the seat even though we had the ticket. We reached Trishuli and had waited for other bus for Dhunche. After 1 and half hour finally we get the bus to Dhunche but the journey to Dhunche is really hard.
As we had to stand the whole way upto Dhunche in the fully packed bus. I almost forgot to mention that there will be checking of your bagpack in the army checking point. If you are taking drones then permission will be needed. After all the checking is done and we got in the bus within 5 minutes we reached Dhunche.
The Journey
Deurali (The first stay)
It was 3:38 pm by the time we reached Dhunche. Without spending much time in clicking pictures we headed to our next destination i.e. deurali. With each steps we take towards our destination, the sky grew darker and darker and at one point we took out the headlight to find our way. With continuous walk we finally reached deurali at about 7:00pm. There are two lodges and out of those two we decided to stay at Deurali Hotel & Lodge whose telephone number I will be leaving at the end of the blog.
Day two
We woke up at 4:00 am in the morning, went washroom as there was only one washroom and there will be queue if we be late. After performing morning rituals like brushing teeth and washing face we had our gastric medicine pantop and a cup of water. Then we started to hike and the next stop is at Dhimsa. We reached Dhimsa at about 7:00 am in the morning. We had our breakfast at Dhimsa Lama Hotel and Lodge and then leave for our next stop.
The next stop after Dhimsa is Chandanbari (Singgompa) where we reached at about 1 hour of the hike. The next destination after Chandanbari is Cholangpati. It took us about 2 hours to reach Cholangpati. The next destination after Cholangpati is Lauribina which will take 1.5 hours time to reach. From Lauribina we continued our hike and reached to Buddha Mandir at 12:36 pm.Finally at 2:50 pm we reached Gosaikunda. After spending some quality time up there in the lake we decided to descent.
As many people whom we have met on our way has told us to climb down as they had felt altitude sickness and find difficulty while breathing during the night stay at Gosaikunda. We were tired and thought of staying at Chandanbari and asked for room in many hotels but none was available. We again started our hike and reached to Dhimsa at about 8:00pm and stayed in the same hotel where we had our breakfast in the morning. We had our meals and decided to stay at Dhunche tomorrow and then only we will be leaving for Kathmandu. After massaging our legs with oil we slept peacefully.
Day Three
We woke up late this time and had our breakfast. It was 9:00 am in the morning when we left hotel and headed for Dhunche. We reached Dhunche at about 1:00 pm. This time we were walking, enjoying the view clicking the pictures as we had walked this way in night earlier. We stayed at Namaste Sunrise Hotel & Lodge. For afternoon snack we had momo and chowmien which was so delicious. At night we had Chicken Thali set for dinner. After so long we felt we had our meal. It was really and awesomely delicious. The hotel owner is very nice and gentle. He helped us to get the bus ticket for Kathmandu.
Day Four
We woke up at 7:30 am in the morning and decided to roam around Dhunche. It was really nice place. We clicked pictures and had a great time there. We got into the bus at 9:30am for Kathmandu.
